Brake by wire? That's just ridiculous.

There's some extremely pedantic (and overly specific) legislation with regard to how the brakes on trailers have to operate: These are things that you can move your junk and maybe livestock in, but you certainly wouldn't be allowed to trust them with human lives. It's utterly ludicrous that 'brake by wire' is even legal on a car, let alone in use on a production model.

On the other hand, you probably at least had a directly controllable cable operated brake. If you did, then you were probably better off than in the Renault, though if that was electronic too then I suppose you'd be doubly stuffed if the ECU decides to have a HAL moment.

And I used to think that drum brakes all round were scary. I suppose the definition of scary is changing.
