......With a manual transmission, I suppose you can drop down to a very low gear and hope that engine braking brings you to a halt in time, but with an auto box, you're probably left to find out first-hand whether or not a five star Euro-NCAP rating is worth the paper it's written on.
Interesting first point, must try it on mine. If it won't operate how is anything going to\pass the first MOT? (I'd already idly wondered how anyone could fail the hill start bit of a test).

Second point - although an automatic won't let you go to a very low gear you can always drop one or two gear levels manually for braking.
