So where else could I get a genuine key from if not a dealer? Any idea's on cost as it is close to Christmas and money is needed for other things.

I would got to them for the fix, however if I press and hold the button on the key as I turn it in the barrel the immobiliser acts normally and turns itself off. Hence why I thought it was the key at fault.

Why would you remove the system totally? I like the peace of mind from having the immobiliser disabelling my car should any toe rag get in. Although if they want to nick it I know they will.
