Generally speaking, I think this is only a problem on cars that have an odd number of sensors (and therefore one in the middle, right where the towbar would be.) So if the Vel Satis has the same four sensor system as the Laguna, I'd say you have nothing to worry about.

The best thing to do would be to park up the car (away from a wall) stop the engine, but leave the ignition on and stick it in reverse. You should then be able to experiment with putting objects close behind and in the centre of the rear bumper where the towbar would be.
