First thing I would check is the battery and earth connections and also the battery condition and alternator output as the rev meter is very susceptable to voltage changes - don't forget to check the engine earth strap
Could be on to somthing there, thinking about it this fault started to develop after I fitted a new battery. My battery is charging at about 13.5 volts is this to high.
