New ECU 's are expensive,but you can get them tested and repaired much cheaper.A test is usually around the 150 mark,repair about the same depending on the fault.

It's just very odd that it decided to play up after it ran out of petrol.The two things must be linked somewhere.....

Is the battery now OK or is it a little sluggish to turn over?.The systems on the car can be sensitive any voltage drop.

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
