Question about a clio on board computer

Hi all,

I have a question about the onboard computer on a Clio 1.2 16v expression (52 plate),

In the manual it states about a button on the right most control, on the windscreen wiper stick,
By pressing this button I should apparently be able to get to a display that shows me my current MPG.

This hasn't been working, and I decided to investigate, removed the steering wheel plastics and disassembled the mechanism as much as i could, what appeared to be a button simply seems like a allowed freedom of movement of the cap of the rod.

Is the on board computer capable of showing me MPG ratings on my model at all? Or is the owners manual a generic manual that covers onboard computers differnt to mine?

Many Thanks
