Could be a faulty sidelight bulb. Try replacing them both (their cheap as chips anyhow) and see how you get on. Failing that it could be an earthing issue.
The same thing happened to my mother in law on her old Nissan micra, only when she braked her main beam came on - therefore flashing people - she kept getting cut up as other cars thought she was letting them in - LOL. That was down to a duff bulb.
