Just the basics to start(apply to any car)
Check for evidence of service history, including CAMBELT changes.
Make sure the chassis number matches the registration document.
Always view a car at the address on the registration document(don't accept any excuses as why it's at a different address, genuine or not).
Always take someone else with you(I know what I'm doing with cars(well sometimes!!),but I always take another pair of eyes with me)
Always give a prospective purchase a good test drive,at least 10 miles. It amazes me how many times people buy cars without first driving them.
Never look at a car in the rain or in the dark!
Ask the seller lots of questions. If hes genuine he will always be happy to answer them.
If the car is of reasonable value, get it HPi checked. This checks for outstanding finance, insurance write offs etc.
If you are not happy, just walk away.NEVER be pressured into buying something your not happy with.
I'm sure there are things I've missed, and I can't really offer any model specific info, but these basics should be good for a start.
I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
Currently in Lagdti's garage:
2004 Saab 9-5 HOT Aero and a 2001 Audi A3 1.8 Turbo
