Thought I'd update this again... this time not good news at all! The cars completely dead.

I brought a new set of clocks to replace the old units and fitted them today but unfortantly the guage still didn't operate. After a long hour look through the wiring diagram the clocks are fed 12 volts through 2 pins. So I checked the voltage and one of them had power but the other not. So I found the problem!

This is where it went horribly wrong!

The wiring diagram reads that 12 volts is supplied directly to the back of that pin from the fuse box, So i ran a continiuity check from the pin to the fuse box pins. And there was no continiuity at all, so broken wire comes to mind. Instead of replacing the wire I ran a 12 volt feed straight from the back of the fuse box to the old wire (pin output) and it basically was fine for a minute.... but then i noticed smoke from the back of the dash!

Basically to sum this up, the wiring that was originally there must of been short-circuiting just after the fuse box... Unfortantly the wire burnt through its outer casing and burnt into the main interior loom (behind the dash board) and now the car won't start. The red light, imolbilizer, was constantly flashing while trying to start it. So im guessing the imbolizer has failed or similar, but im guessing renault will just replace the interior wiring loom rather than trying to fix it.

Basic end to the story... its french and if the gauges don't work just leave them well alone!

Not a very happy person
