It took me so long to write my last post (spelling etc, as it is the festive season and I've had one or two..) that you posted as I was attempting to post. D'oh!
The stalling could well be the
sensor, a common foible on Renaults. The swirly water noise is either an air-lock or combustion gasses in the cooling system which points to HG failure. The mis-firing also points to HG failure as water is getting into the cylinder(s). How much "white smoke" is the car making. Of course all cars produce loads of steam when cold. When mine went again the car, even after a good run, would sit there producing a cloud of steam which looked pretty cool to be honest, but it wasn't doing the engine much good!
A few signs point to the head gasket - when you had the timing belt changed did they change the water pump?
