I had the same nightmare experience with my '98 laguna.
Took mit to a mechanic at work who was unable to get the bonnet open. You see like many others, the nearside released but not the offside.
i took it back to him a week later and gave him permission to cause damage as necessary as I had to fit new headlamps to get it through the MOT (tomorrow) the old ones were so strached and gone opache so that I had to use main beam on country roads without oncoming traffic flashing me!!
Anyway back to the bonnet problem. My mechanic friend resorted to using an angle grinder to cut through the O/S headlamp and eventually got to the bonnet catch through that.
He had to temp repair both catches using cable ties, stating they should be ok for about three openings!
A temp fix until i part with what looks like 80 for new catches. That's on top of the 150 spent on the new headlamps and 60 for a new tyre better pass tomorrows MOT!
144,000 on the clock but drives like a dream. Best car I've ever had!!
