There is an old saying in the motor trade - bigger cars and bigger engines need deeper pockets.
Also in your case you are trying to compare German or Japanese engineering to French - not a good comparison.
In over 50 years experience of motoring I would opt for German or Japanese before French if you can afford it. The only reason I ever owned two Renaults is because I was able to do all my own repairs.
