I'm sure it is a design fault as, even with the later anti-tamper boxes, the design is very poorly thought-out.
As to the injection, I would suspect that they've only taken off the cover on the front of the engine, ie. over the injectors, and checked the loom there.
I would suspect the trouble is that the wear damage is on wiring that is associated with the
, hence it will show up on the
as a fault code with that component. Clearly changing the
without investigating won't make it any better.
Not the first example of poor/ill-thought design I've seen from Renault, but that's another story!
