Hello Chris,welcome to the forum.
The bumper is plastic,so it won't rust.
As for the repair,then it all depends on how fussy you are.The only way to truly make an invisible repair is to take it to a respected bodyshop and have it painted properly.If you don't want to go down that route,then you could try a mobile service like Chips Away,although the quality does vary from employee to employee(from the excellent to the darn right disgracefull!).
A touch up stick would cover the area and make it slightly less noticeable,but they are to be avoided if at all possible,and I have to be honest,I wouldn't bother an aerosol as you could end up with a bigger mess than you already have!.
Just my thoughts though.
I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
