If you're buying an older second hand car, try to avoid ones with full electric packs (i.e. electric windows, central locking etc.) as these parts are usually worn, knackered and very expensive to repair/replace. Also, try to get a car that you see a lot of so that breakers will normally have any parts that you might need.
With older cars, it's not so much the make that counts but how well it has been looked after.
