Do you know how accurate it is in relation to actual road-speed?

In the van I've got one of those new fangled TomTom things which gives you a speed readout, it reads 4-5mph under the indicated speed on the speedo (though its a needle rather than digital one). Theres a few of those "your speed is --" road signs around here and where the sign reads 30, TomTom will read 30 but the speedo will show 25-26mph. Tested it the car and thats the same too.

I ust wondered if the digital speedos were any more accurate than old fashioned ones. Oh, and the TomTom displays speeds in increments of 2/3mph too. Right I'm off to bed, driving to Newquay in the morning (320 miles) and possibly back!
