Stu like Bob said, Its a little rad like thing that is a part of the cooling system. Once the engine is up to temp, The thermostat opens and hot water goes through it.
This then heats the cabin. The heater matrix is a known weak spot on the Lag and unfortunately during the build process, Was fitted before the dash.
You may get a way with a chuffing good flush, But they are a weak point of the car!
