In my old Mk1 Astra esate, a oldish chap ran into the back of it. Made a mess of the back bumper and caused the tailgate to not quite work properly. Was miffed. I vividly remember unfolding myslef from the drivers seat to go and have a chat with the bloke (I'm a fairly hefty chap) and remeber him hunched down in his seat.
He ran into me in a mk4 Astra, and there was no damage done to his. I let him on his was as I felt sorry for him, and couldn't be arsed with the insurance issue, after all the car was worthless.
Anyway... The tailgate was a bit fubarred so when I managed to get it open I took a sledge hammer to the bit inside the car where the tailgate shuts/locks (don't know the technical term.
I made it worse as the tailgate would fly open at seemingly random intervals.
