My car suffers from that, but your car will NOT start, no matter how fine the TDC is or anything if that light is flashing.

For me, even when sat in it, if i have the engine off for just a small amount of time, still with the key in the ignition, the immobiliser will engage, which im used to now.

I then have to take the key out, point it at the sensor above the rear view mirror until NO flashing, then when i turn the key, the light should be SOLID red for a couple of second, then go off. Now start the engine.. if your engine is fine i BET you it will start no problem!
