The previous communication (refer to Post #1 at the start of the thread) seems to imply that particular communication had been sent to those owner's who reported an issue to Renault UK.

The formal communication that "Renault Clio II vehicle owners" received is as follows - it was sent in batches from June-August 2007. Though there are question marks on whether ALL 500,000+ customers (believe this also included Renault Campus owners too!) received this letter! They should have spent those 's and sent them via courier to the owner's - silly Renault! Also, this notification does not include any IMPORTED vehicles nor is it a global notification - so warnings from the Int'l Renault owners out there! The risk remains, and I don't think their "reassurance" (Marketing!!) letter does anything to reassure us!

"Dear [Customer],

Renault Clio II Bonnet - Important Customer Communication

Registration Number: [reg number]
Chassis Number: [chassis number]

There has been coverage in the media regarding some customers experiencing the bonnet opening whilst driving their Clio II. To investigate this matter in depth, Renault set-up a Task Force of experts who have now reached their conclusions, which we are communicating to all Clio II owners.

Both Renault and the UK Enforcement Authority, Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA), have concluded that the bonnet catch mechanism of the Clio II has no design or construction defect and that the bonnet catch mechanism is safe, reliable and fit for its purpose providing that the vehicle is correctly maintained and the bonnet is closed as documented in the driver's handbook page 4.02 / 4.03.

Your details have been provided to us by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), to allow us to contact all Clio II owners and to invite you to make an appointment with your nearest Renault Dealer. Your Renault Dealer will be happy to check the opening and closing mechanisms of the bonnet to ensure correct maintenance is being undertaken. If poor maintenance is detected, the appropraite corrective action will be carried out at no cost.

Please note, that a check of the condition and operation of the bonnet catch mechanism is part of the annual MOT test for vehicles over three years of age (four years in Northern Ireland). We are including with this letter an addendum to add to your Maintenance Booklet to remind your dealer to check this item at each service.

Your nearest/preferred Renault Dealers are:

Alternatively, please visit our website Renault UK to find out the location of and directions to all Renault Dealers in the UK. Should you have any questions you can also contact Renault Customer Services on 0800 0723372, our opening hours are from 08:30 to 18:00 Monday to Friday.

Yours sincerely,

Mick Moore
Director, Customer Management"

The referenced addenda to the Maintenance Services Booklet noted the following:

"RENAULT Maintenance - List of Operations:
The following operation has to be added to the RENAULT Maintenance Programme for all Clio II vehicles:

The bonnet lock mechanisms must be maintained and periodically checked.
Ensure that the bonnet safety catch and main lock are operational and properly lubricated"

Have you received your letter of notification?

Do you feel re-assured by this notification?

Do you think the issue has been fully resolved?
