thanks dancing dad for you suggestions.

i have managed to fit the new spring which is slightly shorter and much stronger than the old spring, probably because it is new. i cannot adjust the hand brake adjuster at all. the new spring is really tight. the little hand brake indent is not against the trailing shoe edge either. also, the wheel cylinder pistons seem to be uneven.
would this require a brake bleeding?
should the foot brake activate the rear brakes? i thought it was just the hand brakes that worked the rear brakes?
