Electronic Handbrake

I have a 55 plate scenic which went in for an MOT in February. Ever since then there has been a problem with the electric handbrake which keeps whining for about 3-4 seconds when applied plus the alarm sounds in the cab, and the red warning light and the service light come on on the dash which clears when I pull away again. This is an intermittent problem but does it mainly on an incline (going up or down) but sometimes on the flat. The brake does hold but it is very annoying and it is that loud even people on the pavement look round to see what the noise is.

I'm taking it back to the garage on Thursday but they say that they have never seen this problem before. Could it be a module fault?

If anyone has any ideas I will pass it on the mechanic on Thursday.
