Quick google does suggest that this an occasional issue with Renaults and other makes

But isn't an issue I've seen mentioned in the time I've been on here.

Trouble is that there are so many ways that a rear screen can shatter.... mine on a Peugeot went with a simple snowball strike (don't think there was a brick in it) and I've seen others fail when people close the tailgate... doesn't even have to be hard.
Fronts are just as liable to go but as laminated, all they do is crack, not shatter.

Was less likely to happen without a decent strike in the past but since screens became part of the bodywork/stress/strength system, they can seemingly spontaneously pop.

Unless there is a history of problems with a particular model, all Renault will do is put it down to happenstance.
