It sounds like you have cut through some of the wires in the loom..

For the handbrake light,I would double check the brake fluid level as if this gets low it will put the same warning light on,but it's a bit of coincidence that it happened at the same time.

It will be pretty awkward to repair the wiring,although 200 is a bit steep.I'd phone around and get a better quote.
