Sounds like the vacuum hose is cracked. Do a search as there's several other threads on this. The hose runs out of the back of the intake manifold, and goes right for about 8 inches to a small black plastic box mounted on the firewall. A bit difficult to get to, but you should be able to feel if the pipe is cracked.
I've fixed it, temporarily, with some electrical tape. Until I can find somewhere that sells vacuum hose. It stopped the "feels like it's going to stall" effect every time you take off. Idle was fine. Running in 3rd or 4th gear was fine.
Another benefit was more power, after I "fixed" the vacuum hose.
