It's true most mechanics can't communicate what they mean to the average Joe. Its probably best to read up on forums and your Haynes manual before you go to the garage.
Use the forum to sound out your idea's or questions, good members and mechanics will not laugh at you and will be more than willing to share thier knowledge, plus you will probably save money along the way. Most people can carry out basic vehicle checks and mechancil repairs, you will be surprised how simple it can be.
I used to work as a road side breakdown and service engineer for Nissans and Audi's VIP service and the biggest problem I faced was getting people to understand what the car was doing wrong in laymans terms, it's even harder now that cars have
's and onboard computers.
