Xenon lights - how far do yours illuminate?

Just asking as I went down a country lane earlier on that had no lighting and they were illuminating only about 10 metres in front of the car (about the same as just using front fogs), with main beam on it was like 'hello - light!!' It illumuniated for what felt like miles compare to the xenon lights, ontheir own they are real poor

Is everyone leses the same or is something amuck in me lights ?

Also the beam as it was uninterupted from external light looked like a big block to the n/s cerb and not a lot elsewhere but then when I hit a little driving rain it looked like the beam went into the oncoming traffic which may have been why someone flashed me earlier on ???

Help !
