wheel bearings, Just done a front one, almost finished, till rain stopped play. Now it's a different noise, but still there. May have to do rear too
To identify side, try hard cornering, Hard left goes quieter, then it's LHS & so on. As you are reducing the load on that side. Front / rear detection is harder as you say. Especially as you'd need to spin the wheel at 30 + to make it noisy.
