Well after 4 garage visits 2 different driveshafts and another big hole in my pocket it is finally sorted...

visit number 1 - left car at garage all day and nothing done could not get part.
2 - Had the driveshaft fitted 150. Good price seeing as i was quoted 180 plus VAT from a couple of other garages. However drove away and noticed that the ABS light was lit on the dash.
3 - back down next day couldnt find problem had to order another shaft as it was the wrong one apparenently ?????
4 - finally fitted correct shaft and sorted out my exhaust mount and wheel grinding noise from new my new brakes.

result - my car is like new again... had a bit of engine treatment too whilst it was in, getting a solid 40mpg (topped at 42.9) on a steady 75 mile drive - not bad for 2.0 16v coupe me thinks.. it finally goes smoothly in a straight line.
although i can get it a lot lower than that ha ha ...

thanks for everyones input on this thread.
