well they called back and I said what the consumer direct guys said so they went off and called back again,this time the garage owner said:
When we got the quote fax from your warranty company we were asked if the item was repairable. To be able to see if it was we had to remove the item. once it was out, rather than leaving it out whilst we had authorisation from your warranty company we repaired the item then put it back together. As it wasn't covered and the work was done we then invoiced yourself
Best bit was he said it was 'company policy' to do that.
So i've said to them to un fix it then which they are doing so there will be no charge to me. The guy was rather annoyed as he said it was going to be another 3 hours work to undo it. I said well leave it then if thats the case but I'm not paying for it but he said 'they cannot do work on vehicles for nothing'
