Hi Lagdti,

Don't you think that manufacturers have been taking this approach for at least two decades now? I can remember a point in the '80s where there was an attempt by some of the 'big boys' to obtain legislation banning owners working on their own cars ('safety' reasons - yeah right!).

It failed of course, but since then we've had a massive increase in "oh no, only the dealer can diagnose that" and "No, you can't have the diagnostic kit", or workshop data held back for 10 years before its released.......(try getting a legit manual for a current Jaguar, Merc or BMW for instance).

Perhaps owners might take a different view ( e.g Phil39 above), if they weren't going to be knocked 75 to 90 an hour labour! Good God, if you're right about the book time of 9 hours the bill for replacing the core will probably be best part of 1000!

Then again........thats why forums such as these are really good places.
