1. Which models of Clios:
All models that are sold between 2001-2008 are deemed as Mark 2. All Mk2 are affected by this "design feature".
Mk1 - the really old style Clios are seemingly safe (at least from the "sudden bonnet release" standpoint. (Don't quote this safety endorsement though!)
2. Which garages will check the bonnet for free?
All renault dealership (main / franchises) have been notified by Renault UK that they MUST look (check / maintain / replace) any bonnet catches that are presented to them, including during servicing and ad-hoc visits. It doesn't have to be the one you normally use for servicing.
Because according to the industry, what Renault did was NOT a formal recall - but a voluntary advisory (risk / warning) communication.
A recall is cleared marked and communciated as such and managed by VOSA / SMMT. So what Renault undertook was not following this formal process. Seems fishy - because if they did, they would have to communciate to the global industry, and therefore potentially enforce this in EVERY part of the globe (can you see $$$ assigned behind Renault's decision not to action the recall formally now?)...not to mention bad PR
(as would be registered as a vehicle which has registered a safety-defect (hmmm....haven't we done this anyway??)
