Like all tyre fitters they probably took out the valve to deflate the tyre and if its corroded the valve won't go back in and reseal - I have seen in on a number of occasions - strange but true
Aha.. its all coming back to me now ! This is why they tried to take the valve inner out - to deflate the old tyres. When they couldnt get the valve out they resorted to trying to puncture the tyre with a big screw driver... Except the tyres are re-inforced... try as he might he couldnt get it through the side wall !!!
In the end the fitter got a hacksaw and sawed through the tyre !
Made me laugh when I watched it happening !
