Exclamation Re: A new Master (possible) purchaser

Don't make a mistake of your life fella, i have a 2.5 traffic (9seater) as i do work as mini cab and am fuming!!! bought it from renault garage, second hand with 40k miles, all good for 4 months then things start going wrong, wrong, wrong!!! with in the 16-18 months I've had just problems, repairs after repairs. DPF filter x 3 times as I've been told by renault engineer I drove the van not long enough to get that filter hot enough to clear it self!!! 3 x 160 that cost me, clutch went in december, that was 1600, then service 300, then timing belt, water pump, fan bets, shock absorbers and break pads (front only) 2500 and now I have to give my van to franchised renault garage next door to my home place to get the gear box fault fix and they are thinking what is the problem? as because it is an auto box (quick shift) they advised me to call renault customer care and complain about the fault as they said they won't touch it so i need to take it to proper renault garage!!! and what is ****ing me off the most are labour charges at 96 p/h and still even so called specialists won't touch it. So if you a mad man or rich person which can afford it go ahead but I advise you either stay with ford or get vw or some japanese van as they value for money is worth much more with renault. This is my second renault and i promised my self I'll be switching to VW, does not matter that it's twice more expensive in some cases but at least it will save you unneccesary stress, cost and time as it will not break down so often as renault, believe me.
Good luck with your future pourchase

Re: A new Master (possible) purchaser

Hi. I have a LM35 new shape master and generally its an ok van, but beware of weak rear suspension, thin bodywork panels, handles coming off and engine management problems. also if you buy long wheelbase it has a poor turning circle. i wouldn't buy another one. goodluck

Re: A new Master (possible) purchaser

Surprised by all the bad reports here, only this week I've placed an order for Master no 7, that's seven in the last fourteen years, didn't hesitate in getting another. Usually run them to 200000 miles before we change them, always buy new, only Master No three was a dog, back in 2004 with the ill fated 3.0 litre Nissan in it, new engine fitted at 50k and need another at 100k so traded it in.
The one that this one replaces is the 150bhp one, in its life apart from normal service items it's had a new Turbo, that's it. We have another that will be used locally later in the year and currently has 140k on it, apart from routine servicing it has had a DPF Sensor (Warrenty) and the front wheel bearings, offside one at 70k and nearside one at 90k again a Warrenty item.
The later one with the 2.3 engine 150bhp is not so good on fuel, need to keep it below 60 to get 30 mpg, whereas the older one with the 2.5, 150bhp easily returns 35 to the gallon if you keep it belo 70mph.

Re: A new Master (possible) purchaser

Hi & welcome

It's good to hear a positive experience for a change & I'm sure there are many others out there too, unfortunately & usually the only time a person searches for "any" car forums it's because they've got problems with either their vehicle / Dealer / Garage.

Like you I've owned many Renaults too, the only one I regretted was a 2005 turbo 2.2 dCi
