Brake light problem

Hello all,

I've noticed a problem with my brake lights. While reverse parking and looking out my rear window, I noticed that my brake lights weren't coming on while braking. It's not until I pushed the brake pedal a bit firmer that they lit up.

I took my car to my regular garage who told me that I needed a replacement switch.

This has now been replaced, but I notice that it is exactly the same.

This worries me as if i'm braking regularly or slowing down gradually, the person behind me is none the wiser. Doing a lot of motorway driving, I like to touch my brakes if i notice someone slowing down ahead.

Can anyone tell me how I can increase the sensitivity of my brake lights?

It's a 2001 Renault Clio.
