Kangoo rear drum removal

Hi All,
I've got the usual problem with worn rear drums on the Kangoo. No amount of prising or banging is going to get the wear ridges over the shoes.
I just wanted peoples thoughts on drilling a hole, around 12mm, in the front of the drum, allowing access to the auto adjusters to try and wind them back. I've seen holes in drums before, I can't believe it will weaken them too much. It failed it's MOT because the rear brakes are out of balance, so I assume the adjuster on one side is not working properly.
The only option I can find online seems to be to use a puller and destroy the shoes, pins etc and replace them all.
Any ideas?
