Absolutely lost: Steering wheel controls

I've just bought a Kenwood stereo (KDC-W6537U) with the optional bluetooth and iPod adapters, and what would be even better than those two would be to get the steering wheel controls working.

There seem to be a bewildering number of different adapters on eBay that claim to do that but most are vague about which models they suit or claim that they only work with Lagunas from 04/97 (mine is 01/97) so I have no idea what I need...

I gather that the little screen at the top of the dash would have done something with the OEM stereo too, though I don't know because the car came without one... I'm not too fussed about getting that working, although my stereo does claim 'sub-LCD output' for such purposes.
