Does anyone know what the cars uses to determine range left if all the other computer elements work ok?
The computer is basically working on the rate the car is using the fuel for the distance/speed you're travellng . The flashing - - - - - is a cop out, up to that point the trip computer possibly said you had 40 miles to go and you think ok I've got 40 miles left however your style and speed of driving may change dramatically during that foercast 40 miles ie sudden traffic, speeding up or alot of gear changing that the distance may now be 28 miles which may then be a couple of miles short of your next petrol stop having already missed one thinking you had 40 miles to go. So if they no longer tell you how much further you have to travel you are more likely to fill up sharp-ish rather than take a chance......
