I bought a Clio 1.2 16v expression & repaired the seat.

Ihad to remove it by cutting pretensioner cables & removing nuts from under car.
When removed I took head rest off & pulled cover off like a jumper. I sourced like for like thread from an embroidery shop & stitched material inside out making sure the over lap of stitching was well away from where the airbag was released (not my advice, but professionals).

I then replaced new airbag (not blank they don't register on ECU ) & pretensioner from a breakers, undeployed.

The ECU is an issue as a new replacement is essential as the other cannot be recoded once deployed. I believe second hand replacements can be sourced but they must match original model number. I opted for the Renault way as family comes first & all that.

300 for ECU hurts a bit but following an accident a few months back I was pleased I took the decision on the ECU & the airbag deployed.
I now own a Clio 1.5 Dci testament to their ruggedness. Hope all helps but if you are not confident of taking on such work leave to professionals.
