Update -

As expected, the dealer has turfed it back to us saying that the thermometer malfunction is probably due to water ingress at the door mirror causing the temp sensor to fail. This doesn't explain why it suddnly malfunctioned when it was in with them for coil replacement - strange that I can own the car for approx 1825 days, and yet by an amazing coincidence the temp readout decides to fail on a day when the car was in the dealer for repair! In fact, I don't believe this can be a coincidence. I'm not suggesting the dealer maliciously caused the problem, but perhaps the action taken to replace an ignition coil has some sort of electrical effect on the sensor? Anyway, I'm going to have a poke around myself at the weekend, I'll update this thread if I learn anything...
