Looking at the pic of the painted rubbing strip I doubt very much if it will polish up as the texture of the plastic is still showing through. Did you use a quality primer and flat it off before applying the top coat. Also remember your car probably isn't a straight colour paint- most likely it is a clear-over-base (matt paint with a coat of clear laquer) so it will be difficult to get the same finish unless you use the same technique. Why not post up a pic of the front rubbing strip so we can see your problem relating to the badges, etc.

P.S. - if you dry of the paint with a hairdryer it may harden enough to polish before refitting
