Vaseline don't work because the thinners in the paint will ether wash it away at the edges or bleed through. Remember both the thinners and vaseline are petrol chemicals of the same family. The professionals use a special liquid masker which rubs off afterwards and even it ain't guaranteed 100%. There are 2 types one is water based for petro-chemical based paints and the other is rubber based for use with water based paints.
