I never quite understand these reports when the driver can (apparently) do nothing about stopping the car.
If I was about to get mangled in a runaway - it'd go into neutral (manual or auto), to hell with over-revving the engine and on the first straight bit of road the key would get turned off - just short of locking the steering!
It did happen to me once - in of all things a 289 Cobra - throttle stuck on full - and believe me that IS scary, but only for a few seconds until you kill the ignition and or neutral the car.
Why do these people carry on mile after mile?
Perhaps I'm missing something?
