Its a bit like the old days with 2-, 3-, 4-, and 5-star petrol, unless the ignition had been advanced, or it was a high-compression variant, there was no benefit to using a higher-octane fuel than was recommended.

Additives which clean the engine are a different kettle of fish though!


I agree Paul a very good point the Placebo effect seems to cover quite a number of car performance/mpg enhancements.

I'm not convinced on it's merits yet.
