Somebody please correct me if Im wrong....
To be more precise: 0* plates mean it was first registered between the months beginning 1st March till 1st Sept.
The 5*plates are first registered between the 1st Sept and 1st March the next year.
E.G. you could have a 56 plate car but could've been first registered in Feb 07. As dave says though. It mainly identifies the section of the year it was made/registered.
