how much power can my alternator handle?

Hi, ive recently put a sub and amp in my car, the sub amp is only kicking out 150 watts rms which i was told would be fine for my alternator, however at high volumes my headlights start to dim with the bass.

Im wanting to add another amp which is 300rms for my door speakers, however not if its going to make my dimming problem even worse.

People have told me stock alternators should handle atleast 1000watts rms.

Could it be a sign of my battery dying? How would i check this?
