I should perhaps clarify that this 'surfaced' when I added my lad (18) to my policy......(poor s*d was never going to be able to afford 2.5k on his own!), and then the questions became VERY specific.....wheels/tyres / body/ suspension/engine etc.

ANY deviation from original was clearly going to carry a loading - or possibly a refusal.

Certainly seeemed to me that they were using this as a measure of how "boy-racer" he might be.

Its not a problem.......if he wants to do this sort of thing he can do it later on at his own expense, but it did highlight what line they might take IF for example we chucked away the old steel wheels in favour of one of the myriad of alloy deals next time a tyre change is due.

Might never have even considered the implications otherwise.

*** ( Oh, and just in case anyone hadn't heard, the above insurer, [the one with the red telephone], will now add young / new drivers to an existing policy ['s!], and if they keep their noses clean they accumulate their own no-claims discount at the normal rate per year, ready for when they want to 'fly-the-nest'.....[providing the policy is with you-know-who] - which is saving a small fortune!)***

Shrewd move methinks!
