I've got an N reg (96) Clio Diesel 1.8.
This afternoon it was driving fine, I parked up, came back to it an hour later and it won't start.
There seems to be power in the battery in that the dash lights up as normal (glow plug lights etc) and the headlights can be turned on at the normal level without being dim or anything.
However, when I turn the key I get no response whatsoever. The starter doesn't make any sort of click which i would expect if it was jammed or anything.
Can anyone sugest what might be wrong or what I should do please?
You will need to locate the starter motor and check the connections, not sure about the mk1 clio but I know the mk2 is vulnerable to corrosion. Make sure the connections are clean and tight. If that doesn't help then check the earth strap from the engine to the bodywork, using a jump lead from the negative terminal of the battery to a clean point on the engine will eliminate this problem.
