hiya tomocr
first welcome to the forums... right as for the electronic incident light did you make sure you disconnected the battery first? the earth cables you disconnected are the main ones from the ECU and could account for the light to be lit..... if you did disconnect the battery the most likely problem is a faulty sensor and the bad earths prevented it from registering??? if the light does stay on even when you switch off the ignition and then turn it back on you'll need to get someone to connect it to a diagnostics computer and clear your DTC's and then watch to see which one is giving you the problem you'll probably find that once the DTC's (detected trouble codes) have been cleared that the light will go out and stay out but because the diagnostics is pre 2000 it reguires specialist or dealership diagnostic equip'
